Sharron Proper, our shepherdess, has cared for The Inn’s farm animals for more than 15 years. Join her Wednesday–Sunday at 4:45 PM (weather permitting) for a micro safari featuring our Clun Forest sheep, llamas Marcus and Noelle, American Buff geese, and her beloved Red Star chickens, the “Golden Girls.” You may even help feed the llamas. As Sharron says, the animals are part of the farm family—and after meeting them, you may feel like part of it too.
Sharron Proper, our shepherdess, has been caring for the sheep, chickens, llamas, geese (and all their friends) on The Inn’s farm for more than 15 years. A great-grandmother and an adoptive mother to many, she loves welcoming visitors the way family should be welcomed—warmly, wholeheartedly, and with a story ready to go. Join Sharron Wednesday–Sunday at 4:45 PM (weather permitting) for what we like to call a micro safari right here at The Inn. Meet our Clun Forest sheep, their watchful guardians, the llamas Marcus and Noelle, our American Buff geese, and Sharron’s beloved Red Star chickens—her “Golden Girls.” Along the way you might even get recruited to help with chores—like feeding the llamas. Letting a llama eat out of your hand is an unforgettable experience. As Sharron likes to point out, none of our animals are on the menu (except for the eggs). They’re part of the farm family—and after a visit with Sharron, you may feel like you are too.
About Sharron:
Sharron Proper, the Inn’s shepherdess, has been a beloved part of The Inn at Little Washington for the past 15 years. Born and raised in Rappahannock County, where she still lives surrounded by children and grandchildren nearby, Sharron is as rooted in this place as the land itself. She lovingly tends to the Inn’s sheep, goats, llamas, chickens, and geese, often bringing them kitchen scraps and plenty of affection. Full of stories and known for telling them with warmth, passion, and enthusiasm, Sharron has a rare gift for making everyone feel like family. For many guests, she is one of the most memorable and cherished people they meet during their visit.
