The Town of Washington:

The historic Town of Washington was founded in 1769 and surveyed by George Washington. It is the quintessential American small town, serving as the seat of government for Rappahannock County. Many of the buildings date back to the late 1700's. In addition there are art galleries, sophisticated shops and theatres to visit.

Sperryville:

Located 6 miles from Washington, Virginia, Sperryville is settled along the picturesque Thornton River at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded in 1820, this farm village offers a selection of restaurants, antiquing, pick your own fruit orchards and farms, and a coffee shop.

Skyline Drive:

Just 17 miles from The Inn, the drive was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression. The drive winds through Shenandoah Nation Park, with views that spread from the lush Shenandoah Valley in the west to the Virginia Piedmont in the east. There are 75 scenic overlooks to stop and take in the panoramas.

Luray Caverns:

Just past the park, the caverns have been inspiring guests for 125 years. There are guided tours available daily. www.luraycaverns.com

Local Wineries:

Montpelier Estate:

James Madison's Montpelier, including the house and 2600 acre property recently reopened to the public after having been a private residence for over 80 years. Tours are available daily.

Monticello:

Thomas Jefferson designed and redesigned his home many times over his lifetime. The house includes 2500 acres, gorgeous gardens and spectacular views. The estate is located about 1 hour from The Inn, just outside of Charlottesville Virginia.
