A Ballroom is Re-Born
Our new "ballroom" was unveiled last week at a reception for 100 guests.

For years we've dreamed about having a perfect space at The Inn at Little Washington to accommodate the many requests we receive for weddings, intimate dinners and executive retreats. At last it's a reality. Our new "ballroom" was unveiled last week at a reception for 100 guests.
Located in the rear of our Tavern Shops across the street from The Inn, the space was once a "Lilliputian" colonial ballroom dating from the 1700's. George Washington is supposed to have danced the minuet there. (Unfortunately we don't have it on video. Nor do we know with whom he danced.) The room was also used for town meetings during the civil war era.
With the help of Annapolis architect Wayne Good, the space has taken on a new identity. It now resembles an imperial Chinese garden pavilion with a trellised ceiling over a cloudy blue, trompe l'oeil sky. Hand painted scenic wallpaper graces the walls. A wall of French doors opens out onto a Mount Vernonesque columned veranda overlooking a gorgeous meadow and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond. Guests feel as if they're stepping into a private world or perhaps walking onto a movie set for a party on a Southern plantation as they watch the deer graze in the distance.
State of the art audio/visual equipment is cleverly hidden in the historic ambiance. A mirrored wall conceals a 64 inch flat screen television and DVD system, creating a perfect boardroom setting for up to 30 participants at a long central table. A seated dinner can be set for 36 inside. In fine weather the veranda is available for additional seating or a tent can be erected on the lawn.
