The Claiborne House, named in honor of the late food journalist and cookbook author, Craig Claiborne is a 3200 sq.ft. "cottage" just a stone's throw from The Inn's main building. The house, originally built in 1899 by a local carpenter, was completely remodeled and re-designed by Alan Greenberg--a Washington DC architect considered to be one of America's foremost classicists. Mr. Greenberg is the designer of the diplomatic reception rooms at the State Department in Washington. The interiors are designed by The Inn's London decorator, Joyce Evans. It is a stunning venue for family gatherings, receptions, honeymoons, weddings or for two couples traveling together. Some of the celebrated guests who have stayed at the house in the past include Al and Tipper Gore, Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, as well as Craig Claiborne, who celebrated many of his birthdays there. Overlooking a newly created herb and cutting garden, the residence features two bedrooms, 21/2 baths, a living room, dining room, media room and library A two storey veranda overlooking a private garden in the rear offers additional space for outdoor entertaining. |
