Folk Music of Russia and Its Neighbors -- the Washington Balalaika Society Orchestra
When: 10/09/2010
8 pm at the Theatre in Little Washington, 291 Gay Street
The Washington Balalaika Society Orchestra was formed in 1988 by Max McCullough and eight other musicians to educate, to entertain, and to preserve Russian folk and classical music. Using traditional folk instruments such as the balalaika, dombra and bayan, the Orchestra has performed for audiences from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center and has grown to be the largest Russian folk orchestra in America. Led by conductor Svetlana Nikonova, a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, 30 members of the Orchestra will perform an evocative evening of folk music from Russia and her Eastern European neighbors.
Rates: Adults $20; Under 18 $10
